Project Results: Advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Environmental Conservation and Livelihood Improvement
The implementation of this project aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting environmental conservation, sustainable farming, and economic empowerment. Below is how the project contributes to key SDGs:
SDG 1: No Poverty
• Trained 360 farmers in fish farming and beekeeping, providing alternative income sources.
• 119 villagers trained in non-timber economic activities, fostering diversified livelihoods.
SDG 2: Zero Hunger
• 280 farmers trained in the establishment and management of woodlots, improving agroforestry practices for sustainable food production.
• Promoted sustainable farming methods, including soil conservation and contour band construction, benefiting 358 farmers.
SDG 4: Quality Education
• Engaged six primary schools—Muungano, Langiro, Mkuwani, Ugano, Ndesule, and Undo—in environmental training.
• Trained 169 pupils (67 females and 102 males) and 12 school teachers on nursery operations and woodlot establishment.
SDG 5: Gender Equality
• Empowered 370 women and 34 men with skills in improved stove construction and utilization, reducing indoor air pollution and time spent collecting firewood.
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
• 370 farmers trained in constructing and utilizing improved stoves, reducing reliance on traditional fuel sources and promoting clean energy solutions.
SDG 13: Climate Action
• Conducted awareness-raising meetings reaching 98 stakeholders on climate-smart practices.
• Trained 260 participants in nursery management to support reforestation and carbon sequestration efforts.
• Promoted sustainable seed collection, preparation, and sowing techniques to 240 stakeholders.
SDG 15: Life on Land
• Strengthened forest conservation by training farmers and schools in woodlot establishment and natural resource management.
• Supported soil conservation, contour band laying, and sustainable land use, benefiting 358 farmers.
